Immersion 200 hour Foundational Yoga Teacher Training with Lauren Roegele & team

Immersion 200 hour Foundational Yoga Teacher Training with Lauren Roegele & team
May 20, 2014 - Jun 27, 2014
9:30AM - 5:00PM

The 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Immersion follows the guidelines set out by the Yoga Alliance, ensuring the highest educational standards of quality, integrity and professionalism.

Participants will develop a personal yoga practice appropriate for each individual while learning to foster a connection with their own inner wisdom and voice. Finding this deeper connection to Self will allow the teacher to communicate the practice to others in a dynamic and sensitive way.

Vancouver School of Yoga concentrates on exceptional training. We do not operate as a yoga studio running daily classes, but focus on training great teachers. The philosophy of our training is to make the practice of yoga accessible, fun and safe for everyone, while both honouring the traditions of yoga and playing a part in its evolution.

In our methodology, a yoga practice is not imposed on the individual instead the practice is adapted to the individual and is considerate of many factors including age, body type, fitness level and energy on any given day. Teachers in training develop their innate, sometimes dormant, skills of clear communication and leadership along with a personal practice suited to their individual needs and goals.

We bring in guest instructors from a variety of yoga disciplines – Yin, Vijnana, Vinyasa flow, Restorative Yoga and Mantra Yoga. In this way, the students’ faculties of discrimination and inner wisdom are stimulated. A clear understanding of the differences in each approach allows teachers in training to pick and choose methods that suit them best and gives them creative license over their own style.

Participants need only have the desire to embark on what is essentially a life-long discipline, and the energy and time to give full attention to study and practice for the duration of the program.

Lauren Roegele

E-RYT 200, RYT 500: Program Director, Head Instructor

Lauren has a deep and personal connection to the healing benefits of yoga. After being hit by a car and suffering through many surgeries and complications, she discovered yoga and immersed herself in the practice, changing her life forever. Yoga helped her find a way through her pain and back to a new, inspired version of her former self.

Lauren is registered with Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT 200. She began her teacher training in Vinyasa Flow with Larry Schultz, studied Yin Yoga with Bernie Clark & Paul Grilley and has logged over 500 hours of training with the Anusara community leading to her “Anusara-inspired” status which she honoured from 2007 – 2011. In 2006, she founded Live Yoga studio in White Rock, which she owned and operated for 5 years, until she sold in 2010. Lauren’s newest endeavour is yogo.tv, an online yoga studio that gives people access to yoga anywhere, anytime. She lives in South Surrey with the 2 loves of her life, husband Cameron and daughter Stella.

Lauren has been an instructor at VSBM since 2008 and recently moved into the role of Program Director and Head Instructor for the 200-hour Immersion and 240-hour Enriched programs. She brings an infectiously positive energy to the classroom. Her classes are playful and fun, with a firm emphasis on the principles of alignment and heart-centred teachings of Hatha Yoga.

“Through my practice I’ve learned to listen to my body – to search through every inhale and exhale, and examine my every thought. My breath connects me to my heart. I want to inspire people through yoga – inspire them to connect with their breath and look deep within their hearts. I am forever grateful for the students that continue to come to my classes and to the incredible teachers that encourage me to challenge and restore myself. I’m so blessed to be a part of such a diverse, creative, fun loving, yoga community.”

Yin Yoga and the 5 Elements Yin Teacher Training With Danielle Hoogenboom
Jun 16, 2014 - Jun 20, 2014
9 - 6

This Yin Teacher Training is open to those with a 200-hour certification. Yin Yoga and the 5 Elements examines the ways in which we can move beyond the external appearance of poses to understand the potency of what takes place below the surface. Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood each correspond with basic characteristics for health and healing, and can be used to deepen our understanding of yoga’s profound capacity to support optimal balance in the mind/body/spirit. In this course you will come to understand how to create a Yin Yoga practice using the characteristics of the elements to balance emotional states, mental qualities and class energies.

Each day will provide an in-depth investigation of one element. Each element has corresponding characteristics, including how its energy, flow, concepts and emotional capacity affect the mind/body for optimal health. Visuals, lectures, theory and asana labs comprise this creative exploration. We will also cover fascia, the meridian system and the emotional aspects of each element and will learn to weave this information into a class that broadens our Yin Yoga offerings and deepens the healing practice beyond its physical shapes.

Danielle Hoogenboom is a Vancouver-based yoga teacher, workshop facilitator, artist and clothing designer who is a mala-making, garden-growing, seed-saving, socially-involved Gemini. She is committed to the practice of yoga as a tool for personal healing and cultivating community. As a teacher, she guides students toward restoring balance in their lives through personal awareness and devotion to inner freedom from our habits and holding patterns. Her passion for the power and potency of Yin Yoga shines in her authentic dedication to this path and her continued studies of that which is natural, mystical and ancient. Danielle has completed her 500 hour in Yin Yoga with Paul Grilley and many 200-hour trainings and workshops to support a holistic approach to yoga.

The Gift of Our Humanity With Marc Holzman
Jul 04, 2014 - Jul 06, 2014
5:30PM - 12

Course Description

To be a living, breathing human is a Supreme Gift, one that deserves remembrance. Life is a miracle, a privilege and a blessing. Yoga is the means by which we connect with the world and ultimately fall in love with our lives. Surviving in this world is simply not enough – we want to thrive!

Join Marc in a celebration of our embodiment by exploring three vital energies in our practice:

Ground—Connect—Thrive

Friday evening, 5:30 – 7:30pm: Slow, deep hip openers, pranayama, mantra, and meditation to ground ourselves.

Saturday morning, 9:30am – 12:00pm: Demystify playful arm balances by connecting with our strength and spirit.

Saturday afternoon, 2:30 – 5:00pm: Hip openers, forward folds, twists & inversions.

Sunday morning, 9:30am – 12:00pm: Evolve and thrive with deep, nourishing back bends.

Instructor: Marc Holzman
Marc has been teaching Hatha yoga for well over a decade. Spending most of his life in Los Angeles and New York, he currently calls Paris his home. Certified in Anusara in 2006, his teaching has now evolved to include a number of styles that have influenced him on his yogic path: the movement of Vinyasa Flow, the precision of Iyengar, the dance of Kundalini, his deep love for mantra and meditation, and his passion for Ayurveda. Marc skillfully weaves themes through his classes in order for each student to experience a journey that goes beyond the body and pierces deeply into the Heart.

In 2007 he created Guerilla Yogi, a donation-based class that insures that students of all economic circumstances can experience the joy of yoga. When he is not in Paris, he teaches worldwide either live or via the many classes that are streamed through the internet on YogaGlo.
Several years ago, Marc underwent open-heart surgery, a literal and metaphorical heart-opening experience that deepened his belief that life, and specifically yoga, should be practiced with fullness, deep gratitude and laughter.
