For educators, parents, health professionals, yoga teachers and anyone who would like to share the joy of yoga with young people.
Please note that Kids Yoga Teacher Training Module 1 is a pre-requisite for this course.
Maximum Enrolment is for 30 students.

Discover the fine art and science of teaching yoga to young people. In this 47.5-hour training, we will share the most up-to-date educational and developmental research and theory, and how it relates to the practice of yoga. In this experiential training, you will explore developmentally-appropriate yoga practices that can be used to foster physical, cognitive, social, and emotional well-being for preschoolers to adolescents.

Learn practices and skills to support your own well-being so that you can thrive as a teacher and avoid burnout. Discover effective instructional techniques, and how challenges can be turned into opportunities for learning and growth. We will cover tips and techniques for creating a positive class environment and keeping students engaged and focused. Help young people develop life-enhancing skills by introducing practices and wisdom to nurture patience, compassion and bliss.

Throughout Modules 1 and 2, we will explore how physical poses (asana), breathing exercises (pranayama), mindfulness and meditation practices, relaxation techniques (yoga nidra) and yogic philosophy can be adapted to be engaging and effective for different developmental periods. Learn yoga-influenced songs, stories, games and artwork to inspire young people. You will also learn how to integrate yoga and academic learning. Gain hands-on experience teaching yoga to kids and receive expert feedback from an experienced RCYT. You will leave with a manual filled with age-appropriate teaching techniques and yoga activities for young people ages 3-18, as well as a full curriculum of lesson plans adapted for your personal context.

Get ready for a magical and transformative week! This training will help you uncover the creative and playful child that lies within you. Connecting with this aspect of yourself can be a joyous and healing journey. It will provide you with unending inspiration, and keep you young in body, mind and spirit.

Module 2 Components:
Preadolescent and adolescent development (ages 10 – 18)
Yoga to support changes during and after puberty
Supporting academic success through yoga and mindfulness practices
Yoga and mindfulness tools for stress relief, self-inquiry, and developing (self-) compassion
Anatomy of the brain and nervous system
Anatomy of breathing
Safely teaching challenging poses, such as arm balances, inversions, and deep back bends
Recommended and contraindicated poses across different developmental stages
The energetic body (including Chakras)
YogaDance
Family (Community) Yoga
The ins-and-outs of working as a children’s yoga instructor


A Note Regarding Accreditation:

Upon completion of all course requirements and full payment, students will receive a Certificate of Completion documenting participation and attendance. 100% attendance is required to receive the 47.5-hour certificate. Hours can be applied towards the 500 hour certification, as well as Continuing Education Units with Yoga Alliance. Please note: In order to become a certified Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher (RCYT), students must have completed Kids Yoga Teacher Training Modules 1 & 2, and a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training recognized by the Yoga Alliance.

About Jacqueline Maloney
Jacqueline Maloney (BA, E-RYT 200, RCYT) has shared yoga with hundreds of young people from preschoolers to adolescents. Formally an ESL teacher, she introduced yoga into her classroom as a way to engage focus and kinesthetic learning, reduce anxiety and foster her students’ overall well-being. Since then, she has spent more than 2000 hours bringing yoga to young people in many settings, including schools, community centers, hospitals and yoga studios. She is currently completing a master’s degree in Human Development, Learning, and Culture in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia. Her research interests include exploring the effects of yoga and other mindfulness-based programs on the health and well-being of young people and educators.
